A Ukrainian IT firm, Cosmolot, has announced the creation of drones impervious to Russian jamming technology. The initial batch of 15 “Punisher” attack drones has been supplied to Ukraine’s military. These drones are designed to operate effectively even when faced with disruptions to GPS and telemetry signals, showcasing their resilience against electronic warfare tactics.
As a result, these drones are capable of eliminating enemy ammunition depots, command posts, and equipment bases located at a considerable distance from the frontline.
Cosmolot has enhanced the previous Punisher drone model, which has already proven its effectiveness in numerous missions against Russian forces. Maksym Subotin, a member of the Punisher development team, described them as resistant to electronic warfare. Reportedly, 50 of these upgraded drones are currently in production, as reported by The New Voice of Ukraine.
Yarema, a Ukrainian soldier involved in the Punisher drone project, emphasized the crucial aspect of the system’s resistance to electronic warfare. He pointed out that recent electronic warfare advancements have hindered their operations compared to a year ago. With the Punisher drone, they have regained an advantage over the enemy, providing a valuable edge in their efforts, he noted in an interview with The New Voice of Ukraine.
Ukraine’s military often relies on readily available civilian-grade drones instead of advanced military ones, often acquired and funded through volunteer efforts and crowdfunding. This reliance poses security, weight, and range limitations compared to their Russian counterparts, who have access to more robust military-grade drones.
Ukraine’s response to Russia’s full-scale invasion, beginning in February 2022, has been bolstered by weaponry and ammunition provided by Western allies. However, Ukraine has expressed the need for additional support to secure victory, and much of the pledged Western assistance has faced delays or, in some instances, remains undelivered.
In response to the shortfall in military support, Ukrainians have taken matters into their own hands by crafting their weapons and equipment. These initiatives include the development of jam-resistant radio handsets and versatile robots capable of transporting supplies and evacuating injured soldiers.
Furthermore, Ukraine has revealed its progress in manufacturing missiles with a range of up to 930 miles, signaling their readiness to produce these advanced projectiles domestically. This move comes as a response to frustration over the limited supply of long-range missiles from their allied nations.
