Earlier this month, OnePlus initiated its marketing campaign for the “Open,” a new foldable smartphone. They began with a teaser video that provided glimpses of the device but didn’t reveal all its features, notably concealing a large camera module on its back.
However, a reliable source has now leaked detailed renders of the upcoming foldable phone, leaving nothing to the imagination. These images confirm the presence of a substantial camera island on the rear.
The leaked renders indicate that the OnePlus Open will be available in two color options: a faux leather black and a glass green. It will be equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which aligns with previous rumors of a launch this month. Notably, Qualcomm is set to introduce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 just days after, placing the OnePlus Open in an uncomfortable position.
What complicates matters further is the rumoured price of $1,699 in the US, which is only $100 less than the launch price of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5. Consequently, it may not be feasible for OnePlus to position the Open as a more affordable option, especially with a soon-to-be-outdated chipset.
The OnePlus Open is expected to feature up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of storage, along with a 6.31-inch outer screen and a 7.8-inch flexible primary screen supplied by BOE. The official unveiling is slated for October 19. Earlier reports have hinted at a camera setup consisting of a 48 MP main camera, a 48 MP ultrawide camera, and a 64 MP 3x optical zoom camera.
While the device is expected to be available in the US and Europe, it will not launch in Germany due to an ongoing patent dispute between parent company Oppo and Nokia in that country.
