Samsung is set to fulfil its promise of rolling out the One UI 6.1 update to a wide range of its older smartphones, with the launch slated for later this month. This announcement was made through a post on Samsung’s Korean blog, where the company also revealed that these devices would inherit the Galaxy AI features introduced with this year’s Galaxy S24 series.
Although Samsung stopped short of providing an exact date for the update’s release, it assured users that the over-the-air update would be available by month’s end, hinting at an imminent deployment within the next few weeks.
List of the devices slated for the One UI 6.1 upgrade:
- Samsung Galaxy S23
- Samsung Galaxy S23+
- Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
- Samsung Galaxy S23 FE
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series
Samsung had already pledged to update these devices to One UI 6.1, but the confirmation that they will also receive the full suite of Galaxy AI features from the Galaxy S24 indicates Samsung’s deep commitment to AI technology and its desire to equip as many of its devices as possible with these advanced capabilities.
Notably, Samsung plans to include all AI features present in the Galaxy S24, ensuring older devices are not left behind in terms of AI functionalities.
The AI features coming to these older Samsung devices include:
- Live Translate: This feature enables real-time conversation translation, allowing users to communicate in different languages without needing an interpreter.
- Chat Assist: A tool that helps refine the tone of your messages, ensuring your intended meaning is communicated.
- Circle to Search: First introduced with the Galaxy S24 and later on the Pixel 8, this feature allows users to perform Google searches for specific content within apps by simply circling it on the screen.
- AI-enhanced Notes App: Includes a Summarize function that provides quick summaries of lengthy notes, among other features aimed at optimizing note-taking.
- Voice Recording Transcription: Automatically transcribes voice recordings, making it an invaluable tool for documenting meetings or lectures.
- Generative AI in Photos App: Offers photo editing suggestions and automatically enhances images.
- Slo-mo Video Conversion: This enables users to convert standard videos into slow motion after they’ve been recorded, adding versatility to video editing.
These additions promise to significantly narrow the gap between Samsung’s older models and its latest flagship devices, enriching the user experience with cutting-edge AI capabilities.
