The signs of developer season approaching are unmistakable: the sun peeks out behind the clouds, and birds sing their cheerful tunes. While others may be enjoying the outdoors, developers around the world are gearing up for a series of conferences to learn about the latest advancements in AI and operating systems. The excitement begins next week with Nvidia’s GTC, followed by Microsoft Build, Apple’s WWDC, and Google I/O in the coming months.
Recently, invites were sent out for Google I/O, scheduled for May 14 and 15 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California — the usual venue. As I sit outside writing this, a plane carrying a banner flies overhead, and, unfortunately, a bird just relieved itself on me (no joke). Despite the unexpected encounter with nature, I’m feeling prepared for the upcoming event. While there’s still time to make travel arrangements, rest assured, we’ll be there (and this time, I might bring a hat).
Although Google I/O is primarily targeted at developers for Google’s various operating systems, the event typically kicks off with a keynote led by Sundar. Attendees can anticipate updates to Android, Wear OS, Gmail, and more, as well as potential announcements regarding consumer hardware (perhaps the Pixel 8a?). Additionally, there will likely be exciting developments to explore in the realm of AI, including the highly anticipated Gemini project. Skydiving may or may not be on the agenda, but unfortunately, dodging bird droppings is a risk we’ll have to accept. Such is the nature of the job, it seems.
