With Google I/O approaching next month, anticipation is growing that the company will unveil its new Pixel 8A phone. Numerous renders and some real-world images of the phone have already surfaced, and now, thanks to Android Headlines, what seem to be official marketing images have leaked.
These images suggest that Google intends to release the Pixel 8A in four colours: black, porcelain, blue, and vivid green. This green is notably more vibrant than the more subdued “mint” colour introduced with the earlier Pixel 8.
The Pixel 8A is rumoured to feature a 6.1-inch display, although it remains unclear if the refresh rate will be 90Hz or 120Hz. The device appears to retain thicker bezels than the flagship Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, particularly at the bottom. It is expected to be powered by the Google Tensor G3 chip, like its more premium counterparts.
There’s speculation that the Pixel 8A might be the last of Google’s A-series for some time. Later in the year, Google is rumoured to launch three versions of the Pixel 9; the standard Pixel 9, the Pixel 9 Pro, and the Pixel 9 Pro XL, each varying in screen size and price. The company is also rumoured to be planning a Pixel Fold 2. With such expansions, it seems the A-series could be squeezed out, particularly with minimal pricing gaps between the budget-friendly 7A and the frequently discounted Pixel 8 models.
The Google I/O 2024 keynote is scheduled for May 14th. While there’s been plenty of buzz around the Pixel 8A, less has been revealed about the Pixel Fold 2, suggesting that Google may delay its release until October to synchronize the launch with the upgraded Tensor G4 processor across its premium range.
