Instagram is rolling out a new feature that allows users to live stream exclusively to their Close Friends list. Announced on June 20, the “Close Friends on Live” feature is being introduced globally, providing users with more control over their audience during live broadcasts.
With this update, live streams will be visible only to those included in the user’s “Close Friends” list. Users can add or remove people from this list at any time, and up to three other accounts can join the live streaming session. This marks a significant change from the previous setup, where live broadcasts were visible to all followers, and for public accounts, anyone could join and view the live stream.
This move is part of Instagram’s broader strategy to enhance user privacy and control over their interactions on the platform. Last November, Instagram introduced a feature allowing users to mark posts on their content grid for their close friends. Additionally, the platform previously rolled out a mute button for everyone except close friends, enabling users to opt for better safety settings. Initially available only to creators, this feature is now accessible to all users.
The new live streaming option is another step in this direction, reflecting Instagram’s ongoing efforts to make the platform more private. Meta, Instagram’s parent company, has been focusing on providing users with options to make their presence and interactions more private.
In addition to these updates, Instagram has also announced a new feature that allows users to add music to carousel posts that include videos. Previously, music could only be added to carousels with photos. These updates underscore Instagram’s commitment to giving users more personalized and private ways to connect with their followers and friends, enhancing the overall user experience on the platform.
