The Adriatic Aerospace Association is set to host a prestigious gathering of both domestic and international leaders in the field of space science and technology. The event, known as the Brijuni Conference, will take place from September 25 to 28 on the picturesque Brijuni Islands. The primary focus of the conference will be on the critical issue of space security.
According to Slobodan Danko Bosanac, president of the Adriatic Aerospace Association, the increasing number of satellites—both large and small—that are no longer in use is becoming a significant threat to the safety of space travel. Bosanac emphasizes that in addition to the dangers posed by human activities in space, there is also the ever-present risk of impacts from space debris and asteroids, which could have catastrophic effects on life on Earth.
The conference will bring together some of the world’s foremost experts in space science and technology to address these pressing issues. Among the notable speakers is Heiner Klinkrad, the former head of the space debris office at the European Space Agency (ESA) and the founder of that office. Heinz Stoewer, professor emeritus at Delft University of Technology and the first head of ESA’s Spacelab project, will also be delivering a lecture.
Another distinguished speaker at the conference is Ognjan Božić, professor emeritus at the Technical University of Braunschweig, who will share his insights on the subject. The Brijuni Conference promises to be a crucial event for anyone with an interest in space, offering a platform for discussing the challenges and solutions related to space security.
With the gathering of such esteemed experts, the Brijuni Conference is poised to contribute significantly to the global discourse on ensuring the safety and sustainability of space exploration.
