Instagram is rolling out a new feature that will allow users to leave comments on Stories, marking a significant update to the platform’s popular feature. Until now, interactions with Stories were limited to direct messages (DMs), but this new function introduces a more visible and interactive way for users to engage with content.
Enhancing User Interaction
Previously, users could only respond to Stories through reactions or DMs, but with this update, they can now leave comments directly on the Story itself. This change means that comments will no longer be sent as private messages, but instead, they will “live only on the Stories,” according to a representative from Meta, Instagram’s parent company. This provides a more public interaction space for users, fostering a sense of community and engagement.
Control Over Comments
Instagram users will have the ability to enable or disable comments for each individual Story post. When comments are enabled, they can be seen by anyone who follows the specific profile, but only if both users follow each other on Instagram. Like the Stories themselves, the comments will disappear after 24 hours. Users will also be able to see small profile photos of those who have commented, which will appear at the bottom of the Story icon, indicating that there are comments to view.
Maintaining Direct Messaging Options
Despite this new commenting feature, users will still have the option to reply to Stories via DM if the Story poster has that setting enabled. Additionally, users can respond to comments on Stories with a direct message by simply sliding on the text and selecting the DM icon.
Expanding Story Customization
This update is part of Instagram’s broader effort to provide more customization and interactive features for Stories. Users can now create posts using customizable templates, generate backgrounds with artificial intelligence, and apply a wide range of interactive stickers to their content.
A New Era for Instagram Stories
Instagram’s introduction of comments for Stories marks a shift towards a more engaged and interactive platform experience. With the ability to comment directly on Stories, users now have a more dynamic way to connect with their friends and followers, making Instagram Stories not just a place for passive viewing, but for active conversation.
