Meta is introducing a feature that allows users to delete their Threads profile independently of their Instagram account, addressing an early concern with the app that currently requires Instagram account sign-up.
Instagram boss Adam Mosseri mentioned the new capability, stating, “You’ll be able to access the new feature from the settings menu in a new ‘Delete or Deactivate Profile’ section.” Although the feature might not be universally available yet, Mosseri anticipates its widespread availability soon.
The ability to delete just the Threads profile aims to provide users with more flexibility, considering the initial requirement to sign up with an Instagram account. Mosseri had previously acknowledged this issue, stating that the company was exploring ways to enable the deletion of a Threads account independently. For those who prefer not to permanently delete their Threads profile, deactivation remains an option.
Mosseri also announced the rollout of a feature allowing users to opt out of having their Threads posts featured on Facebook and Instagram. This update follows user feedback expressing a desire for greater control over their experience.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg mentioned last month that Threads has nearly 100 million monthly users. App enthusiasts have uncovered evidence hinting at potential new features for the app, such as hashtags and direct messages (DMs). The anticipated support for ActivityPub is still awaited.
