WhatsApp for Android is reportedly gearing up to introduce a new feature that will empower its in-built AI chatbot, Meta AI, to edit and reply to images. According to update tracker WABetaInfo, this feature is currently under development and not yet visible to beta program participants.
The upcoming Meta AI feature will leverage Meta’s latest large language model, Llama 3, and will include privacy control options to safeguard user images. While the exact release date remains unspecified, the feature was identified in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.14.20.
Currently capable of responding to text messages, Meta AI will soon extend its capabilities to analyze and respond to images. Users will be able to upload images and pose questions to the AI, similar to functionalities seen on platforms like Gemini AI and ChatGPT.
A standout feature will be Meta AI’s ability to edit images. While specifics on editing capabilities are not fully disclosed, it is expected to support basic edits such as improving lighting, cropping, and removing background elements. Advanced features like background changes and effects akin to Pixel smartphones’ Magic Editor might also be included.
Images sent to Meta AI will undergo analysis, potentially including facial feature recognition. Users will retain control over their images, with options to delete them at any time. However, it remains unclear whether deleting an image will also remove it from Meta AI’s database.
The integration of advanced AI capabilities into WhatsApp underscores Meta’s commitment to enhancing user experience and privacy controls. As developments progress, users can anticipate a more interactive and feature-rich messaging experience on the platform.
Stay tuned for further updates on the rollout of these exciting new features in WhatsApp for Android, promising enhanced functionality and creative possibilities in image interaction and editing.
