In the first six months of 2024, the number of registered vehicles in Albania reached 738,299, marking an 11% increase compared to the same period last year. A significant portion of these vehicles, 73%, are older models, specifically over 15 years old, according to data from the General Directorate of Road Transport Services (DPSHTRR).
During the period from January to June 2024, the number of cars in the over 15-year-old category was 541,210, reflecting an 11% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This category constitutes the largest segment of Albania’s vehicle fleet.
The number of cars aged 9 to 15 years was recorded at 149,677, showing a modest increase of 2%. These vehicles make up 20% of the total car fleet.
Meanwhile, the segment of cars aged 5 to 8 years saw a significant rise, with 27,672 cars registered, an increase of 57% compared to the previous year. This category now represents approximately 4% of the total fleet for the period from January to June 2024.
Newer vehicles, those aged 0 to 4 years, accounted for 19,730 cars, showing a 33% increase. However, these cars still only represent 2.6% of the total registered vehicles.
In terms of vehicle typology, manual transmission cars dominate the fleet, making up 56.2% of the total, whether they are in active status or temporarily deregistered.
The highest number of road vehicles was registered in the district of Tirana, which accounted for 35% of the total road vehicles in the country. Following Tirana, Durrës recorded 102,290 cars, making up about 14% of the total. Fier and Shkodra also contributed significantly, with 9% and 7% of the total vehicle registrations, respectively.
