Bugatti has officially drawn the curtain on the Chiron era with the unveiling of its last model, aptly named L’Ultime. This final tribute to the iconic hypercar has been handcrafted in the legendary Molsheim facility, marking the end of an automotive lineage that followed the Veyron with monumental prowess and exclusivity. The Chiron L’Ultime, which pays homage to Monégasque driver Louis Chiron, is based on the formidable Super Sport model but with several unique touches that underscore its historical significance.
The Chiron L’Ultime is not just another high-performance vehicle but a rolling piece of art. Its livery, inspired by the Chiron showcased at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, features a gradient blend of French Racing Blue and Atlantic Blue. This eye-catching two-tone effect symbolizes a bridge between the Chiron’s introduction and its conclusion. Further enriching this bespoke design are hand-written names of locations that have been pivotal in the Chiron’s legacy, such as Ehra-Lessien—the venue where the Chiron achieved a breathtaking speed of 304 mph—and Geneva, where it made its debut.
This special edition also showcases “500” written on various parts of the vehicle, including the rear wing’s underside and the wheel caps, signifying its place as the 500th and final Chiron. This number is also engraved on the engine cover of its 8.0-litre W-16 engine, a beast in its own right with four turbochargers. Bugatti’s dedication to its French roots is visible in the tricolour flags adorning the side mirrors, highlighting the Chiron’s birthplace.
While the owner of this final edition remains undisclosed, clues such as the orange side markers suggest it might belong to a collector in the United States. Despite being the last car to bear the Chiron badge, Bugatti fans have more to look forward to. The company continues to produce the Mistral roadster and the Bolide, a track-only monster, both derivatives of the Chiron, indicating that while the nameplate may be retiring, its spirit will live on in these models.
Adding to the anticipation, Bugatti has teased an all-new car set to premiere this June, equipped with a naturally aspirated V-16 engine, promising a future that continues to push the boundaries of automotive engineering and luxury.
The Chiron’s journey may have reached its zenith with L’Ultime, but Bugatti’s quest for automotive excellence is far from over. As the Chiron era closes with a dignified finale, the automotive world watches eagerly as Bugatti gears up for its next chapter.
