Polestar has announced updated pricing for its much-anticipated midsize electric SUV, the Polestar 3, featuring three rows. In a notable move that may reflect the recent slowdown in electric vehicle (EV) sales growth, the starting price for the Polestar 3 has been set significantly lower than initially forecasted.
Originally unveiled in October 2022 with an expected starting price of $83,900, positioning it in the luxury vehicle segment, Polestar has now adjusted the starting price to $73,400 for the Polestar 3 Long Range Dual Motor version. Including the $1,400 destination charge, the total comes to $74,800, marking a considerable reduction from the previously announced price. This model is slated to begin production in the second quarter of 2024, with deliveries expected in the summer.
Polestar has also decided to include the Pilot pack as a standard feature across all Polestar 3 variants. This package offers advanced driver-assistance technologies such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, automated lane changes, and a heads-up display, which are often optional extras in other vehicles.
For those desiring additional luxury and technology features, the $5,500 Plus pack adds a high-end 1,610-watt Bowers & Wilkins audio system with 25 speakers, a fresh air subwoofer, seating surfaces made from “bio-attributed” MicroTech and responsibly sourced wool, heated rear seats, and 21-inch wheels, bringing the total to $78,900 ($80,300 with destination charges).
The Performance pack version is available for enthusiasts at $79,400 ($80,800 with destination charge), enhancing the SUV with Polestar’s bespoke chassis tuning, 22-inch Performance forged wheels, a power boost to 517 horsepower and 671 pound-feet of torque for quicker acceleration, and distinctive “Swedish gold” interior accents.
For those wanting every available feature, a fully equipped Polestar 3 with all three packages—Pilot, Plus, and Performance—will cost $84,000 ($85,400 with destination charge), slightly above the original base price projection.
Initial production of the Polestar 3 will commence at Geely’s manufacturing facility in Chengdu, China, in the second quarter, with plans to start manufacturing at the South Carolina plant mid-year. Notably, the electric SUV qualifies for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit only when leased. This pricing adjustment comes amidst a broader trend of decreasing EV prices industry-wide, led by significant price reductions from Tesla.
