Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests that while we might see some design updates in OS 18, a significant overhaul of macOS could still be a couple of years away. In today’s edition of his Power On newsletter, Gurman mentioned Apple’s plans to refresh the iOS design potentially within the year.

Despite rumors suggesting that iOS 18 might borrow heavily from visionOS in terms of design, Gurman believes that while there may be some influence, a complete transformation to mirror visionOS is unlikely.
Gurman previously noted in November within his newsletter that Apple’s top executives have hinted at iOS 18 being a substantial update, describing it as “ambitious and compelling” with numerous significant new features and design changes.

Regarding macOS, Gurman pointed out that Apple has just begun the preliminary phase of redesigning this operating system, with a potential unveiling set for 2025 or 2026. The last time macOS saw a major design refresh was with the introduction of macOS Big Sur in 2020.
Apple is anticipated to unveil iOS 18 at its yearly WWDC developers conference in June.
