Apple has introduced new MacBook Air models featuring 13-inch and 15-inch screen sizes, powered by its own M3 chip. Priced at $1,099 for the 13-inch variant (a $100 reduction compared to the M2 Air model), and starting at $1,299 for the 15-inch model, both are now available for preorders in the U.S., with general availability set for March 8.
The M2 MacBook Air was unveiled in 2022, with the 15-inch model added to the lineup last year. Boasting claimed battery life of up to 18 hours, a 1080p webcam, and upgraded Wi-Fi 6E radios, both MacBook Air models also feature two Thunderbolt ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Additionally, they support two external displays, albeit only when the lid is closed.
Equipped with the M3 chip, which debuted last year, these new MacBook Air devices combine an 8-core CPU with up to a 10-core GPU. Furthermore, they include a three-mic array for improved voice clarity during calls.
“MacBook Air is our most popular and loved Mac, with more customers choosing it over any other laptop. And today it gets even better with the M3 chip and new capabilities,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
Both models are offered in midnight, starlight, silver, and space-grey colour options. Interestingly, Apple’s announcement of the new MacBook Air devices coincides with the European Union’s imposition of a €1.84 billion (approximately $2 billion) fine on Apple for breaching antitrust regulations in the music streaming market.
