HP introduces the Envy Move, a mobile-friendly all-in-one computer weighing 9 pounds

In the ever-evolving world of technology, HP is making a bold move by introducing the Envy Move, a 23.8-inch all-in-one desktop designed to be highly portable. While portability has become synonymous with laptops, HP is taking a unique approach by offering the convenience of a desktop with the mobility of a laptop.

The Envy Move is portable and can be taken on the go

The Envy Move is not the first of its kind, as some lesser-known brands have dabbled in this concept. However, it’s the first major company to venture into this territory. HP proudly markets it as the “world’s first moveable all-in-one with a QHD display.”

What makes the Envy Move intriguing is its practical design. Equipped with a built-in handle and a battery, it’s a desktop that you can carry around your home, allowing you to work or entertain yourself virtually anywhere. Whether you’re in the living room, kitchen, or home office, the Envy Move aims to be your go-to computing solution.

HP’s Envy Move specifications

The package includes a keyboard with an integrated trackpad that conveniently fits into a rear fabric pocket on the back of the device when you’re on the move. It features a “self-deploying” kickstand and a top handle for easy transport. To safeguard the screen during transit, there’s even an optional “Sherpa cover” available.

In terms of performance, the Envy Move aligns more with laptops than traditional desktops. It packs Intel’s 13th Gen Core i3 or Core i5 U-series processors, commonly found in thin and lightweight ultraportables. With up to 16GB of LPDDR5-4800 RAM soldered to the motherboard and SSD options ranging from 256GB to 1TB (with only the 512GB offering PCIe Gen 4 support), it promises snappy performance.

The Envy Move has a designated space to store the keyboard while on the go

The device features a 5MP IR webcam with a privacy shutter, and it can automatically turn off the screen when it senses you’ve walked away, enhancing privacy and conserving power. In terms of connectivity, it offers a variety of ports, including USB Type-A, USB Type-C, and HDMI video in, allowing you to use it as a monitor for other devices.

One notable feature is its 6-cell, 83 WHr battery, which HP claims can power the Envy Move for “up to 4 hours” on a single charge. However, it’s worth mentioning that you can always plug it in like a traditional all-in-one desktop using the included 90W power adapter.

The Envy Move features a 23.8-inch all-in-one computer

Despite its desktop-like capabilities, the Envy Move doesn’t feel overly heavy, weighing in at 9.04 pounds. A standout feature is its self-deploying feet, which provide stability when the buttons on the bottom are pressed. While the device is primarily constructed from recycled plastic, it maintains a lightweight profile. The included strap offers sufficient support, and there’s a practical mesh pocket to keep the keyboard and Envy Move together.

HP envisions the Envy Move as a versatile home hub, a screen for every room in your house that you can carry with you as needed. Whether it’s for yoga in the living room, work in the home office, or cooking tutorials in the kitchen, the Envy Move aims to be your flexible computing companion.

The Envy Move can be set up anywhere quite easily

While some may question its utility compared to laptops or smartphones, HP sees a niche for this innovative device. In a world where LG is fitting 27-inch screens into suitcases, the Envy Move is part of a trend towards more portable computing solutions.

The Envy Move is available now, starting at $899.99, and can be purchased from HP and Best Buy. With its unique blend of desktop power and portability, it’s sure to pique the interest of those looking for a flexible computing solution that can adapt to their dynamic lifestyle.
