Samsung has announced an enhancement in its support for various audio technologies, including Auracast, 360 Audio, and Auto Switch, through a recent blog post. These technologies aren’t new to Samsung devices, but the company has now clarified the extent of their integration across its product range. Samsung plans to roll out updates starting from the end of this month for its Galaxy Buds 2, Buds FE, and Buds 2 Pro.
Auracast is a notable Bluetooth technology that enables a single device to transmit audio to an unlimited number of receivers, such as speakers and headphones. Initially supported on Galaxy Buds 2 Pro and select high-end TVs, and introduced with the Galaxy S24 series in January, Samsung is now broadening the availability of Auracast to more devices. To send Auracast broadcasts, devices must run Samsung’s One UI 6.1 or higher, including Galaxy S23 series, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and Tab S9 tablets. Receiving Auracast broadcasts will be possible on devices with One UI 5.1.1, extending to Z Fold 4, Z Flip 4, A54 5G, M54 5G, Tab S9 FE, and Tab Active 5 5G.
Auracast technology is also being adopted by other brands, with JBL and Sennheiser developing compatible speakers and headphones.
The Galaxy S24 series features a real-time translation capability, where the Galaxy Buds play translated audio directly to the user, while the smartphone’s speaker broadcasts the translation to the conversational partner. This feature, initially announced for the Indian market, is confirmed for global availability.
360 Audio is another Samsung technology receiving expanded support, specifically aimed at enhancing the surround sound experience. It uses head tracking to simulate audio coming from the direction of the screen and is now supported by a range of Samsung’s Neo QLED and OLED TVs, in addition to select phones and tablets. A comprehensive list of compatible TVs is available on Samsung’s blog.
Auto Switch facilitates seamless Bluetooth connectivity transitions for the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro between Samsung tablets or TVs and smartphones upon receiving calls. This feature is now extending to include Galaxy Book laptops equipped with Samsung’s One UI 6.0 software, enhancing user experience across Samsung devices.
