Samsung is gearing up for the summer release of the eagerly awaited Galaxy Ring, with plans to significantly ramp up its production.
Sources from The Elec indicate that mass production of the Galaxy Ring is slated to commence in May. Samsung aims to initially produce approximately 400,000 units, with plans to adjust the production volume based on how well the product is received in the market. This strategy is key, especially since the Galaxy Ring marks Samsung’s foray into a completely new product category.
The compact size of the Galaxy Ring, combined with a current lack of parts shortage, is expected to enable Samsung to quickly increase production should the demand exceed initial forecasts.
At its launch, the Galaxy Ring might not include some of the health-related features found in the Galaxy Watch series, such as blood pressure monitoring, ECG, and notifications for irregular heart rhythms. This is likely due to the time required for Samsung to secure the necessary medical device certifications for these features.
There’s considerable anticipation surrounding the Galaxy Ring, which could inspire other smartphone manufacturers to explore the smart ring segment. The device was previewed at MWC, providing insights into its design and how it compares to competitors like the Oura Ring.
While the exact specifications of the Galaxy Ring remain under wraps, Samsung has revealed that it will be available in three colours (gold, silver, and black) and nine sizes, boasting a battery life of up to nine days.
Rumours hint at functionalities such as ECG, blood flow measurement, wireless payments, and device control capabilities, though these features have not been officially confirmed by Samsung. It’s also mentioned that the Galaxy Ring will be compatible with all non-Galaxy smartphones, though it may not support iPhone connectivity.
The official launch of the Galaxy Ring is anticipated to occur in July during Samsung’s Unpacked event, which will also introduce the latest models in its foldable phone lineup. Sales of the Galaxy Ring are expected to begin in August.
