The South Korean tech giant revealed its expanded lineup of wearables at the Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris on Wednesday, introducing the much-anticipated Galaxy Ring. This innovative ring can be worn 24/7 and integrates seamlessly with Samsung’s smartphones and smartwatches.

Introducing the Samsung Galaxy Ring

The Galaxy Ring represents Samsung’s latest venture into wearables for health-conscious and tech-savvy consumers. Despite its compact size, the ring offers advanced health monitoring capabilities and flawless integration with Samsung’s ecosystem.

Key capabilities of the Galaxy Ring

Advanced Health Monitoring: This lightweight device is equipped with a suite of sensors that continuously track essential health metrics, including sleep patterns, heart rate variability, and activity levels around the clock. The collected data is analyzed using Samsung’s proprietary AI and algorithms, providing users with a new Energy Score that details personalized insights into their overall well-being.

Biofeedback and Stress Management: One of the standout features of the Galaxy Ring is its real-time biofeedback capabilities, which rival similar tech products from Apple. The ring’s embedded sensors detect stress levels and offer actionable insights and guided breathing exercises to help users manage stress effectively.

Sleep Tracking: Leveraging Samsung’s expertise in sleep tracking, the Galaxy Ring provides detailed sleep analysis, including stages such as REM, deep, and light sleep, along with insights to improve sleep quality over time.

Fitness and Activity Tracking: Whether you’re into running, cycling, or yoga, the Galaxy Ring accurately tracks various activities, offering real-time stats during workouts and comprehensive summaries afterward to keep users motivated and on track with their fitness goals.

Integration with Samsung Health Ecosystem: The Galaxy Ring syncs seamlessly with the Samsung Health app, allowing users to view all their health and fitness data in one place. This integration enables users to set goals, track progress, and receive personalized recommendations based on their activity and health metrics.

Comparing the Samsung Galaxy Ring with the Oura Ring

Let’s compare the Samsung Galaxy Ring with the Oura Ring from Oura Health, focusing on price and basic functionality.

Materials and Colors: The Galaxy Ring is crafted from Grade 5 Titanium and is available in three finishes: Titanium Black, Titanium Silver, and Titanium Gold. The Oura Ring, made of aerospace-grade Titanium, offers two styles: Horizon, with six finish options including Brushed Titanium, Silver, Black, Stealth, Gold, or Rose Gold, and Heritage, available in Silver, Black, Stealth, or Gold finishes.

Price: The Galaxy Ring starts at $399.99, reflecting its advanced features and integration capabilities. The Oura Ring starts at $299 for the Heritage style and $349 for the Horizon style, with an additional membership fee of $5.99 per month after the first free month.

Water Resistance: Both the Galaxy Ring and Oura Ring offer 10ATM water resistance, making them suitable for showering, surface swimming, or snorkeling, but not for deeper activities like scuba diving.

Size and Weight: The Galaxy Ring comes in nine sizes, measuring 7 mm wide and 2.6 mm thick, and weighs between 2.3 grams and 3 grams, depending on the band size. The Oura Ring weighs between 4 to 6 grams and has similar dimensions at 7.9 mm wide and 2.55 mm thick.

Battery Life: Samsung claims the Galaxy Ring’s battery can last up to seven days with continuous usage and comes with a portable charging case and wireless air buds. The Oura Ring’s battery also lasts up to seven days, but its lifespan may vary depending on usage and the age of the ring.

User Experience: Both rings are designed with comfort and aesthetics in mind. The Galaxy Ring appeals to users seeking a multi-functional wearable that extends beyond sleep and activity tracking, offering a wider range of health metrics, including stress management, biofeedback, and comprehensive fitness tracking. The Oura Ring focuses primarily on sleep tracking with detailed insights into sleep stages, recovery, and readiness, along with basic activity tracking. Oura’s activity tracking integrates with Apple Health, Google Fit, and Strava.

The Galaxy Ring, along with the newly unveiled Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Ultra, is now available for pre-order in select markets, with general availability starting July 24.
