Microsoft is taking significant strides in enhancing Copilot, its AI-assisted feature within Microsoft Teams, by introducing novel methods for engaging the assistant in meeting chats, summaries, and beyond.
A pivotal update to Copilot’s capabilities includes its enhanced ability to provide summaries of Teams meetings and amalgamate spoken transcripts with text chats into a cohesive view. This feature is designed to streamline the experience for users needing to catch up on missed meetings.
Regarding enriching chat functionality within Teams, Microsoft emphasized Copilot’s versatility, stating in a recent blog post, “Copilot can adjust your message to add a call to action, or like how a pirate would speak. Soon, you will also be able to generate a new message based on the context in the Teams chat.” This forthcoming feature aims to inject a new level of creativity and contextual awareness into user communications.
Further expanding on Copilot’s functionality, Microsoft announced an intelligent call recap feature for direct Teams phone calls, which is anticipated to be generally available next quarter with Teams Premium. This feature promises to automatically record calls, providing concise summaries and highlighting necessary follow-up actions, thus eliminating the traditional need for manual note-taking.
These AI-driven improvements collectively represent a significant step forward in enhancing the Copilot feature within Teams, showcasing Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to integrating advanced AI technologies into its Office suite for more efficient meeting recaps and personalized alerts regarding mentions during meetings.
In addition to these enhancements, Microsoft is introducing new hybrid meeting features aimed at optimizing the experience for both remote and onsite participants. Among these features is an advanced automatic camera switching capability, poised to use AI for determining the best camera angle in a meeting room, whether it’s from room cameras or laptops, to ensure the optimal view for remote attendees.
Furthermore, Microsoft is preparing to launch a speaker recognition feature in Teams Rooms. This April preview will enable users to register their voice and facial profiles, ensuring their contributions are accurately captured in meeting transcripts.
Microsoft is also extending the Teams Phone Mobile feature, emphasizing its commitment to seamless communication integration. The company announced, “We are excited to announce that several new partners including AT&T, Odido, Virgin Media O2, and Vodafone UK will begin offering Teams Phone Mobile later this year.” This expansion through partnerships aims to provide users with a unified contact number across Teams and their mobile devices, enhancing accessibility and convenience.
