Today marks the release of Apple’s iOS 17 update, bringing a host of new features, and several apps are swiftly introducing updates to align with these enhancements. Among these apps, Carrot Weather stands out, known for its comically entertaining daily weather forecasts. The app has introduced a range of fresh additions, including a voice impersonation feature, weather widgets, and more.
Thanks to Apple’s innovative Personal Voice accessibility feature, which has the capability to mimic a user’s own voice, Carrot Weather can now deliver weather updates in a user’s distinct voice. While Personal Voice primarily serves individuals facing the risk of losing their ability to speak, Carrot’s new voice impersonation tool could prove to be especially beneficial for such users. Additionally, Brian Mueller, the creator of the Carrot apps, mentioned that this feature could also add a fun element for those who enjoy mimicking celebrity voices.
In the Carrot 5.12 update, several weather widgets have been introduced, allowing users to incorporate them into the iPhone StandBy mode display, iPad Lock Screen, and the Apple Watch Smart Stack. StandBy presents a new full-screen experience on iPhones, enabling users to place their device on its side for convenient access to at-a-glance information. Among the widgets offered by Carrot are those that provide humorous content along with hourly and daily forecast charts.
Furthermore, the Carrot app tailored for Apple Watch has undergone a revamp, specifically designed to align with watchOS 10. The primary interface now adopts a vertical tab view, enabling users to effortlessly switch between various forecasts, be it the current, hourly, or daily outlook. Each section is interactive and can be expanded to reveal additional details. Users also have the flexibility to showcase animated weather maps and personalize their preferred data points.
In a notable expansion, Carrot is now accessible in 14 additional languages, encompassing Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish. However, it’s worth noting that Carrot’s signature snarky comments, for which the app is renowned, remain exclusively available in English.
Moreover, a novel feature dubbed “next-hour radar” has been introduced, tracking the movement of storms up to 60 minutes into the future. This feature is accessible in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, Japan, and South Korea.
