In a groundbreaking collaboration, Mercedes-Maybach has teamed up with Space Perspective, an innovative carbon-neutral space travel experience company. This partnership aims to transport thousands of ticketed customers to and from their extraordinary journeys beyond Earth’s atmosphere.
If you’ve ever had the privilege of stepping inside an electric vehicle (EV) from Mercedes or, even more impressively, a Mercedes-Maybach, you would have likely encountered an interior and acceleration experience that can be best described as resembling the ambience of space. Mercedes, a renowned German luxury automaker, has consistently embraced a futuristic design approach while maintaining its reputation for uncompromising quality, especially within its top-tier Maybach sub-brand.
As Mercedes Group AG continues to expand its range of all-electric EQS vehicles, Mercedes-Maybach is reimagining these models to offer an entirely new level of comfort and style. Already, we’ve witnessed premium versions of the EQS SUV, including a striking all-black edition.
Now, Mercedes-Maybach is elevating its space-age technology to a whole new level by partnering with Space Perspective to transport paying customers to and from their awe-inspiring journeys into space.
Mercedes-Maybach and Space Perspective join forces
Mercedes-Maybach has unveiled its latest partnership, which involves providing EV shuttles to “Explorers” at Space Perspective’s facilities, facilitating their journeys to the capsule launch site located on Florida’s Space Coast. Space Perspective, founded in 2019 by human spaceflight veterans Jane Poynter and Taber MacCallum, aims to make human spaceflight safer and more accessible for Earth’s inhabitants.
The company’s innovative Spaceship Neptune features a pressurized capsule capable of accommodating eight customers and one captain, offering in-flight amenities such as meals and cocktails. What sets Space Perspective apart is its unique propulsion system. Instead of traditional rockets, the vessel is lifted to an elevation of 100,000 feet using a colossal SpaceBalloon, all while producing zero carbon emissions. With the introduction of Mercedes-Maybach’s all-electric EVs for transportation to and from the launch site, the entire experience becomes carbon-neutral.
Jane Poynter, founder and co-CEO of Space Perspective, emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating, “Pairing our all-electric Spaceship Neptune with the all-electric Mercedes-Maybach represents a sustainable and inspiration-filled future, not to mention a heightened overall experience for Space Perspective Explorers.”
Looking ahead, Space Perspective plans to conduct uncrewed test flights throughout the year as it prepares for manned launches scheduled for 2024. By the end of the following year, the forward-thinking tourism company intends to commence commercial flights for over 1,650 customers who have already secured tickets for this incredible space journey – with Mercedes-Maybach serving as the automaker responsible for their transport to the stars.
