These regulations have given rise to some of the most interesting and adorable miniature vehicles globally.
A Japanese automaker, HW ELECTRO, plans to introduce its kei car, the PUZZLE, to the US market. Unlike a traditional kei car, the PUZZLE is more of a kei van, continuing Japan’s legacy of compact vehicles. The small electric van recently made its debut in the US, signalling the brand’s intent to enter the American market. HW ELECTRO anticipates commencing commercial sales of the PUZZLE in 2025. During the unveiling, Hsiao Weicheng, President of HW ELECTRO, emphasized the company’s commitment to addressing environmental challenges and providing innovative eco-friendly solutions to the commercial vehicle market.
The PUZZLE extends the company’s efforts, following its entry into the domestic market with the ELEMO series, a line of next-generation multi-purpose commercial electric vehicles (EVs) designed to enhance disaster resilience and reduce environmental impact. The PUZZLE electric van prioritizes disaster resilience, featuring onboard AC outlets, USB ports, Wi-Fi internet connectivity, and emergency tools. Solar panels on the roof ensure functionality during extended power outages.
The vehicle also includes a first-aid kit and a crowbar, and its design allows external access to features like AC outlets and first-aid kits, emphasizing assistance to others during emergencies. The flat, angular design of the PUZZLE not only contributes to cutting down on design and tooling costs but maximizes the dimensions within the KEI car vehicle segment, creating a spacious and efficient cargo area.
As a two-seater primarily designed for commercial use, the PUZZLE could serve as an excellent platform for van life, although its compact size requires consideration for sleeping arrangements. The exact storage capacity and additional technical specifications, including speed, range, and pricing, are yet to be disclosed by the company.
