According to a recent exposé by The Wall Street Journal, Elon Musk has been identified as fostering an environment among his circle of friends and professional acquaintances that not only encourages but pressures them into consuming drugs alongside him. This behaviour has reportedly taken place within the ranks of board members and directors across his various ventures, who have been observed partaking in or tacitly supporting his substance use to maintain favour with the tech magnate.
The report highlights instances at gatherings where Musk was observed using ketamine in a nasal spray form for recreational purposes and consuming liquid ecstasy directly from a water bottle, as per accounts from individuals who have either directly witnessed these activities or have been informed about them subsequently.
It was noted that individuals currently and formerly associated with the leadership of Tesla and SpaceX — many of whom have substantial financial investments in Musk’s enterprises or hold significant stock options — have also engaged in drug use with him. According to The Journal, the extent of Musk’s substance consumption has led to a culture of apprehension among his nearest business partners, who fear the potential loss of their financial gains and societal standing should they decline to partake in drug use with him.
Responses from Musk, his attorney Alex Spiro, and representatives for Tesla and SpaceX were not immediately available when sought out for a comment on these allegations.
Following an initial report by The Journal on January 6, which detailed Musk’s history with substances including cocaine, LSD, ecstasy, and magic mushrooms, Musk quipped on X, “Whatever I’m doing, I should obviously keep doing it!” This earlier report raised concerns about Musk’s security clearance and SpaceX’s lucrative contracts with the government, considering federal regulations regarding drug use. In response, NASA issued a statement saying, “The agency does not have evidence of noncompliance from SpaceX on how the company addresses the drug- and alcohol-free workforce regulations.”
The spotlight on Musk’s alleged drug use comes amid other controversies, including a report by the Journal about a former Tesla director who opted out of reelection to the company’s board due to worries over Musk’s substance use and erratic behaviour. Additionally, SpaceX executives expressed concerns about Musk’s possible substance influence during an all-hands meeting described as “cringeworthy,” where he appeared nearly an hour late and delivered a rambling, slurred speech for about 15 minutes before the meeting proceeded under the direction of the company’s president.
