Barbie and her iconic pink convertible will make their digital debut next week. Starting September 12th, fans can own the box office sensation, which broke records with a staggering $1.38 billion in global earnings. It will be available for purchase at $29.99 or for rental at $24.99 on various digital movie platforms, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play, Vudu, and more.
This musical comedy, directed by Greta Gerwig (known for her work on “Little Women” and “Lady Bird“), follows the adventures of Stereotypical Barbie, portrayed by Margot Robbie, who also serves as an executive producer. Barbie grapples with a profound existential crisis, prompting her to depart from the idyllic Barbie Land and venture into the real world in search of answers.
The film features a star-studded ensemble cast, with Ryan Gosling taking on the role of Ken. Variations of Barbie and Ken are portrayed by Issa Rae, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Kate McKinnon, and Kingsley Ben-Adir. Adding to the impressive lineup, the cast includes America Ferrera, Will Ferrell, Michael Cera, Rhea Perlman, and Ariana Greenblatt.
In an exciting twist, Warner Bros. has already announced a one-week IMAX release of the summer blockbuster, set to begin on September 22nd. Attendees at these supersized screenings will be treated to exclusive post-credits footage, a special feature absent from the current theatrical version of the film.
The worldwide enthusiasm for Barbie has been overwhelming, humbling, and deeply moving. So many Barbie fans went on this journey with us, and we can’t thank them enough for supporting the film and sharing their Barbie experience in theaters, across social media, and out in the world. We made Barbie for the big screen, so it’s a thrill to be able to bring it to IMAX, the biggest screen of all.
Greta Gerwig, Barbie’s Movie Director
Greta Gerwig achieved a groundbreaking milestone with Barbie, becoming the first female director to independently cross the $1 billion mark in worldwide box office earnings. Furthermore, the film has recently outperformed The Super Mario Bros. Movie, making it the highest-grossing film of the year in the domestic box office.
I think Barbie’s been capturing people’s attention since the day she was invented. She is an icon, but she’s a very complicated one. There’s been times when Barbie has been ahead of her times and there’s been times when she’s been behind her times, but she’s always been evolving. I feel like this movie’s the next evolution.
