On Friday, images and videos depicting previously undisclosed portions of the game started circulating widely on social media platforms and private Discord channels. There are claims that the game is being illicitly distributed on ROM websites, although we couldn’t confirm the accuracy of these claims.
As of the time of this publication, at least three individuals were even live-streaming the game on Twitch, revealing levels that go beyond what was shown in press previews and official assets from Nintendo. For those who want to avoid significant spoilers before the game’s official release on October 20, it’s advisable to be cautious on social media in the coming days.
This isn’t the first time a first-party Nintendo Switch game has leaked in such a manner. In the past, games like Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom became available to the public almost two weeks ahead of their official releases. On Friday, voice actor Kevin Afghani, based in Los Angeles, announced that he has become the new voice of Mario and Luigi in Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
During the summer, Nintendo revealed that Charles Martinet, who had voiced Mario for over 25 years, would be stepping down from the role, but the company did not announce his replacement. “Incredibly proud to have provided the voices for Mario and Luigi in Super Mario Bros. Wonder,” Afgahni stated. “Thanks to Nintendo for inviting me into the Flower Kingdom!”
In a video shared by Nintendo last month, Charles Martinet and Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto discussed Martinet’s new role as the ‘Mario Ambassador.’ Martinet described his role as involving “travelling around the world, sharing the joy of the Mario family, and being able to continue meeting with all of you wonderful fans, who I cherish absolutely the most.”
