A prominent leaker, Ice Universe, has repeatedly suggested that Samsung is considering the removal of the 10x telephoto camera from the Galaxy S24 Ultra. While this change is not confirmed yet, it’s noteworthy that Samsung might potentially withhold a significant feature present in the last three Galaxy S flagship models from the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
The 10-megapixel 1/3.52-inch sensor in question has primarily excelled in producing satisfactory pictures in well-lit conditions, particularly during daylight. However, it has maintained its status as a distinctive feature since its introduction with the Galaxy S21 Ultra in 2021. There is speculation that this feature may be entirely removed starting with the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The leaker initially hinted at this change on X a few days ago but later deleted the post, indicating the intention to gather more reliable information before making a conclusive statement.
Recently, the tipster has reposted a tweet on their X timeline, reinforcing the notion that the 10x zoom camera might indeed be absent from the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The replacement plan, if accurate, remains shrouded in uncertainty. What has garnered more certainty is the transition of the 3x telephoto camera to a modern 50-megapixel sensor, which is expected to serve effectively as a 5x zoom telephoto. Additionally, there is growing speculation about the potential use of 200-megapixel sensors to simulate a larger zoom range through cropping.
