Google silently updated the Pixel Watch app on Android to introduce notifications signalling when a connected Pixel Watch 2 has completed charging. Before this update, users had to physically check the smartwatch’s screen to determine if it was fully charged. The addition of this feature addresses a frequent request from Pixel Watch users, offering a more convenient way to monitor charging status.
The notifications, identified on version 2.1.0.576785526 of the Pixel Watch app, were first noticed by Android Authority. It’s important to note that the report couldn’t confirm if these notifications are also applicable to owners of the first-generation Pixel Watch.
As these notifications appear to originate from the Pixel Watch app on Android rather than the smartwatch itself, there should theoretically be no limitations preventing them from working with the first-gen Pixel Watch. However, attempts to replicate the fully-charged notification on an original Pixel Watch using the same Pixel Watch app version were unsuccessful.
To gain more clarity on whether this feature will be extended to the first-generation Pixel Watch, inquiries have been made to Google. It is plausible that charging notifications are gradually rolling out, as there has been no official announcement from Google at this time. In the event of new information, this story will be updated accordingly.
The charging notifications are straightforward; once your Pixel Watch reaches 100% battery, a push notification is sent from the Pixel Watch app on Android to your smartphone, displaying a banner that reads, “Your Pixel Watch is fully charged.” The introduction of charging notifications for the Pixel Watch comes less than a month after references to the feature were identified in the APK for Pixel Watch app version 2.1.
