The Digital Serbia Initiative has officially launched applications for the fourth cycle of the Career 4.0 program, a free mentoring opportunity designed for high school students across Serbia. This unique program connects students in their final years with experts from leading digital companies in order to help them choose a career within the IT industry.
The program, which has previously engaged hundreds of students from over 25 cities in Serbia, focuses on preparing young people for technological innovations by providing them with access to mentorship in fields like software development, telecommunications, gaming, project management, bioinformatics, marketing, management, law, and HR.
Applications are open from September 26 to October 20.
Direct Mentorship from Leading Experts
Running for four months, the program includes online meetings in small groups with a chosen mentor, enabling students from all over Serbia to meet professionals from top-tier digital companies. Tijana Stefanovic, project manager at Digital Serbia Initiative, said:
“Career 4.0 is a great opportunity for students to experience what modern jobs look like in practice and to learn from mentors about cutting-edge technologies. We want to show them that Serbia has companies working at a world-class level.”
Not Just Technical Skills
One of the mentors, Sava Minić, a leading game developer at Nordeus, added:
“It’s not just about developing technical skills. We help them improve communication, teamwork, and proactivity—skills that are key to success in the industry. Career 4.0 also offers new perspectives on the IT sector, far beyond the standard clichés of being just a ‘programmer’ or ‘buffer manager’.”
Participating companies include A1, Bosch, Devtech, BioSense Institute, Mad Head Games, Microsoft Development Center Serbia, and Nordeus, among others. The program allows students to gain insight into a wide range of roles within the tech industry.
What Do Students Say?
Feedback from previous years has been overwhelmingly positive. In a survey conducted by Digital Serbia Initiative:
- 96% of participants rated the program as extremely useful.
- 93% said the mentorship helped them focus on their future career.
- 85% gained a new perspective on the opportunities in the IT industry.
Students expressed gratitude for learning directly from industry professionals, while mentors emphasized the importance of working closely with students to help them connect with real-world technological roles.
