Apple recently concluded its ‘Scary Fast’ showcase event, where it introduced new Mac products powered by its latest in-house chip. Here’s a brief summary of the key highlights from the event.
Enhanced M3 chip lineup
The spotlight was on Apple’s new M3 chips, which include the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max. These chips are the “first personal computer chips” manufactured using a more efficient 3-nanometer process. They feature a faster and more efficient CPU and an updated GPU that supports ray tracing, mesh shading, and Dynamic Caching. The M3 chips offer up to 128GB of unified memory, and the M3 Max chip is the most powerful, with up to 92 billion transistors, a 40-core GPU, and a 16-core CPU.
Refreshed 24-inch iMac with M3 chip
The 24-inch iMac undergoes an upgrade with the M3 chip, delivering twice the performance of its M1-equipped predecessor. It features a 4.5K Retina display with over 1 billion colours, Wi-Fi 6E support, and a 1080p webcam. The iMac offers up to 24GB of unified memory and is available in seven colours: green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver. It is priced at $1,299 with an eight-core CPU or $1,499 with a 10-core chip and is available for preorder, with availability starting on November 7th.
14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros with M3 chips
Apple has unveiled new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models featuring either the M3 Pro chip or the higher-end M3 Max. These laptops come with Mini LED displays, a 1080p camera, a six-speaker sound system, up to 22 hours of battery life, and up to 128GB of RAM. They are offered in space black with a fingerprint-resistant coating and silver. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M3 Pro chip starts at $1,999, while the 16-inch M3 Pro model starts at $2,499. These MacBook Pro models are available for preorder today and will be in stores starting November 7th.
Entry-level MacBook Pro without the touch bar
In addition to the M3 Pro and M3 Max-equipped MacBook Pro models, Apple is launching a more affordable 14-inch MacBook Pro featuring the base M3 chip. Priced at $1,599, it replaces the 13-inch MacBook Pro with an M2 chip released by Apple last year. This entry-level model is equipped with 8GB of RAM and comes in silver and space grey (black is exclusive to higher-end models). Preorders are available today, and it will be officially released on November 7th.
