Attendees at MWC 2024 got an exclusive look at the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Ring, where Samsung also shared some intriguing details about the device.
During a media briefing, Samsung hinted at the smart ring’s impressive battery life without specifying the exact sizes of the batteries. However, details about the prototypes showcased on stage were revealed later. The Galaxy Ring will be available in nine sizes, with battery capacities ranging from 14.5mAh to 21.5mAh, corresponding to the size of the ring. For comparison, the Oura Ring has a battery capacity between 15mAh to 22mAh.
In terms of weight, the smallest prototype model weighed 2.3g, while the largest weighed 2.9g. If these weights carry over to the final product, the largest Galaxy Ring would be more than 1g lighter than the lightest Oura Ring.
Samsung also assured Android phone owners that the Galaxy Ring will be compatible with devices beyond the Galaxy series. However, iPhone users may be disappointed, as Samsung does not currently plan to support iOS. Dr. Hon Pak, Samsung’s vice president, mentioned the challenge of compatibility between iOS and Android but expressed hopes that the Galaxy Ring’s features would be compelling enough to entice users to switch.
The release date for the Galaxy Ring has not been announced yet, but it will be available in three colours: silver, gold, and black.
