Footage from the behind-the-scenes of Apple’s ‘Scary Fast’ event on Monday reveals that it was shot using an iPhone 15 Pro Max, albeit with the assistance of a comprehensive array of professional recording equipment and studio lighting.
Both images and the video show that, not surprisingly, a substantial amount of sophisticated equipment, including drones, stabilizers, camera dollies, industrial lighting, and other filming accessories, was necessary to achieve the high-quality look of the iPhone footage.
Apple has employed similar, although less extreme, setups for previous events shot with iPhones, such as the Burberry spring/summer 2014 fashion show.
While it’s an effective way to showcase the recording capabilities of iPhone cameras, it’s important to note that everyday individuals may not be able to replicate these outcomes at home unless they possess an extensive and very costly set of equipment.
The equipment displayed in the “Scary Fast” behind-the-scenes footage is relatively standard for large-scale studio productions. However, Apple’s implication in these “shot on iPhone” promotions is that anyone can achieve similar results simply by purchasing the latest iPhone.
For comparison, consider the recording equipment used by Olivia Rodrigo to film her own “shot on iPhone” music video for “Get Him Back!” using an iPhone 15 Pro, albeit on a smaller scale since Rodrigo isn’t as well-equipped as Tim Apple.
